”I rather go to hell than a homophobic heaven”

Archbishop Desmond Tutu, a bridge builder, has left us. Someone who encouraged dialogue and broke the culture of silence. Already in the 70s, Desmond Tutu spoke openly in defense of queers. In the mid-1990s, shortly after the end of apartheid, the archbishop raised our questions with these words:

”If the church, after the victory over apartheid, is looking for a worthy moral crusade, then this is it: the fight against homophobia and heterosexism.”

In our movement, we will, among other things, remember Desmond Tutu as a bridge builder, dialogue creator and as a voice for an inclusive church. Rest in peace.

And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Revelation 21:3-4
